Mulawa Foundation Mare

15 Jan 1973 - 1 Jan 1998

Bred by Janow Podlaski State Stud | Poland
Imported 1980

One of the most significant early finds on the purposeful international quest was initiated to find superlative brood mares that would complement the new chief sire AMBITION in the earliest days of Mulawa was EUNI (Bandos x Eunice by Comet). This six year old royally bred beauty from Janow Podlaski, a full sister to Polish legends Eukaliptus & Europa, EUNI was then residing at Dr. Nagel`s Katarinenhof Stud in Germany.

To Mulawa`s good fortune, Dr. Nagel had chosen to concentrate principally on Straight Egyptians, and was reluctantly offering EUNI for sale to the right home. Enter Greg Farrell, Sr., who purchased the young mare in foal to the aspiring homebred Straight Egyptian sire JAMIL. In the following spring of 1980, EUNI foaled in the United Kingdom while in quarantine – a stunning dark copper chestnut that brilliantly combined the structure and athleticism of his dam with extreme type, refined elegance and exceptional quality of his sire. Greg Jr., who was seeing both horses for the first time, was on hand to meet the eagerly anticipated pair when they arrived into Sydney just a few months later. In trademark Greg Farrell style, his response to his father was heartfelt and direct - "the mare is beautiful – and the colt is mine".

That colt would come to be known as VISION – and a vision he was, as both an individual of superior phenotype and as a driving force of quality and excellence throughout the Mulawa program. VISION`s exotic desert appeal was the perfect complement to the bold substantial masculinity of AMBITION. Crossed upon the original foundation mares and eventually upon the daughters of each other respectively, VISION and AMBITION defined the achievements and the direction of Mulawa during the critical early evolution of the stud.

With AMBITION, EUNI produced several excellent foals, including Australian National Champion Mare MULAWA EUNIQE (later exported to the US) and invaluable chief sire ARRIVAL. Full brother, ADVENT, is the long time personal mount of Greg Farrell at the Tasmanian property Belle Vue and is a leading contender for the title of Greg’s favourite horse.

*EUNI was loved by all as the original "Queen of Mulawa". She now rests next to her two esteemed sons - while their names and influence continue to impact Mulawa breeding and success for generations and decades to come.
