Retired Broodmare ~ Tasmania

Second-Generation Mulawa-Bred Champion

Member of the MAANIA Family

ALCHIMIA is one of two TS AL MALIK daughters in the performance team. Her dam, M MASCARA, is a WARRANTY daughter who successfully raced in 1995/1996 winning all three of her starts.

"MIA" lived three of her first fours years in the paddocks of Tasmania & returned in early 2007 to start her saddle career along with half-sister MULAWA ASPEN. MIA has great athleticism & wonderful conformation - she most certainly turned heads in the show ring.

MIA & Annette in their first season together won the Novice ridden classes & went on to be named the 2010 National Stud Show Champion Ridden Arabian Mare. MIA had a wonderful career in the show ring but like her mother before her there was something more that this mare wanted to do...

In late 2011, MIA began race training with Anothony Mountney. It soon became clear that racing was her calling. After gaining confidence and transforming from a blossoming hack to a fit streamlined athlete, MIA showed a crowd at the 2012 Australian National Arabian Championships what she was really made of. MIA, who had only ever had barrier starts, was a little slow on the line start but after the first turn in the 1100 meter race it became very clear she was making ground. In the final straight home, MIA & her jockey Daniel Putland were at least 10 lengths ahead & cruised home.

MIA in mid 2012 sustained a serious tendon injury which looked it may have ended her racing career. MIA returned to Mulawa for a 12month long rehabilitation program & it was a great success as MIA returned to the track in December 2013.

MIA raced in the prestigious Shadwell Arabian Plate on a beautiful day in the Gold Coast in QLD. MIA was the clear winner from the start as she led the field to the finish in line the 1200 meter race.
