Senior Success at Scottsdale | ROMANCE MI & KAVALLE MI
It is with great pleasure that we share inspiring news from snowy Scottsdale. On Friday morning, 22nd February, Mulawa-bred horses achieved a rare clean sweep of both senior halter classes, for Arabians Aged 8 & Older, the final two breeding qualifiers for Sunday’s championship.
In a small but high quality class of Senior Mares, three-time Australian National Gold Champion ROMANCE MI made her international debut in her trademark show-stopping style: snorting, tail flagged, driving with power and animation at the trot, in total command of the ring. With Andrew Sellman at the lead, ROMANCE dominated the competition with confident ease, proving to her largest audience to date exactly why she is Australia’s most successful show mare: perfectly balanced, enchantingly feminine & superbly constructed with a undeniably regal elegance and an irresistible presence. ROMANCE can now add Scottsdale class winner to her extensive and impressive credentials, heading into the Finals on Sunday with major momentum and legions of new fans to support her campaign.

No sooner had the euphoria of ROMANCE’s victory begun to settle in, than JR’s Dream Arabians’ KAVALLE MI exploded into the ring in the class for Senior Stallions. Besting even ROMANCE’s inspiring entrance, KAVALLE reminded every one ringside exactly why he is one of the most complete and captivating stallions in the breed today. In the show stopping moment of the week, KAVALLE trotted through the in-gate with extraordinary power, suspension & animation, neck curled, tail at full mast & unfurled, snorting & blowing with masculine magnificence. As superbly conformed as ROMANCE, KAVALLE continued to shine at the stand-up, emerging victorious over a field of impressively credentialed stallions. Already a two-time Scottsdale class winner as both a three & four year old, this most recent victory gives KAVALLE a perfect undefeated record of 'three-for-three' in Scottsdale competition. An ecstatic Joanne & Ram Gunabalan were all smiles in the winner’s circle, as was Andrew Sellman, KAVALLE’s exclusive handler since his arrival in North America back in 2013.

Both of these prestigious victories were especially poignant reminders of the profound impact of the late great MAGNUM FORTY FOUR, whose enduring influence is fundamental to an overwhelming majority of Mulawa’s modern day success. It was exactly 20 years ago this week that MAGNUM FORTY FOUR made his show ring debut, as a junior yearling colt, winning his class at Scottsdale, a watershed moment from MAGNUM PSYCHE’s initial foal crop that foreshadowed his sire’s global dominance in the new millennium. Since joining the Mulawa programme in 2004, MAGNUM FORTY FOUR has continued to advance the modern Mulawa Arabian to new heights internationally, adding superlative balance, exceptional refinement, vascular black skin, lustrous coat quality, long laid back shoulders and full powerful quarters, versatile athletic ability, exemplary intelligence & trainability and an undeniable aristocratic presence to now generations of globally venerated descendants, chief amongst whom are ROMANCE MI & KAVALLE MI.
Scottsdale is also the source of another monumental event in Mulawa’s evolution, a discovery that also celebrates a milestone anniversary in 2019. It was exactly 30 years ago that a honeymooning Greg & Julie Farrell were fortunate enough to cross paths with the serendipitously named KARMAA, a mare whose purchase would forever alter the course of Mulawa’s destiny, positively and profoundly. Only recently departed, the legacy of KARMAA continues to expand with prestige and admiration around the world through literally dozens of her celebrated descendants. Amongst these is KAVALLE MI, a direct great-grandson tail female through her eldest surviving daughter, MULAWA KARA MIA MI, the reigning WAHO Trophy Recipient for 2019.
The greatest honour bestowed upon on any breeding programme is its ability to endure, for its horses to mature into the finest examples of the breed ideal, better even in the second decade of their lives than in their youth. Like the famed State Studs of Poland, whose senior horses have dominated global show rings for more than half a century, the senior Mulawa-bred horses competing on the world stage continue to earn this inimitable distinction, enduring year after year at the most elite level of international competition as superlative examples of the best the Arabian breed can and should be. We are incredibly proud of these horses, and grateful to have the opportunity to share these home-bred Arabians with happy & supremely satisfied members of the Mulawa Community across the globe.
Any success in Scottsdale is recognition and achievement of which Mulawa is especially proud. It continues to be the greatest showcase for Arabian breeding horses on the planet, one in which we are happy to celebrate alongside so many dedicated, visionary and passionate breeders, owners, professionals & enthusiasts. Rest assured, on Sunday morning, Mulawa will be ringside celebrating everything we love and admire about the Arabian horse, with the extraordinary community of people with whom we share this same passion & connection.
