East Coast Championships 2012 - Remarkable Results
The 25th Anniversary of the prestigious East Coast Championships turned out to be a celebratory event for Mulawa Arabian Stud. Under internationally respected judge Joseph Polo from the United States, Mulawa acheived six championships in the breeding classes, including all three yearling titles - Filly, Colt & Gelding, and the Two Year Old Colt title, as well as the Senior titles for both Mares & Stallions Five Years of Age & Over.
The Yearling results were most impressive for former East Coast Champions KLASS & MUSTANG'S MAGNUM. KLASS was the sire of both the Champion Yearling Filly - MI KLASSIC FANTASY- and the Champion Yearling Gelding - MYSTERE MI, now proudly owned by Kirra Coulthart. In an East Coast first, MUSTANG's MAGNUM, herself an East Coast Champion as a yearling, was the dam of both the Champion Yearling Filly & Colt, MI KLASSIC FANTASY & MAXIMILLIANO, respectively. MUSTANG'S MAGNUM is also the dam of the 2011 East Coast Champion Two Year Old Filly KLASSICAL DREAM MI, a full sister to MI KLASSIC FANTASY.
East Coast Champion Two Year Old Colt ATUNED MI is on a winning streak. He has been undefeated in the show ring since his Australian Yearling Colt Championship in March of 2011. He came into the East Coast Championships as the reigning National Stud Show Junior Champion Colt, his second successive title at the Nationals.
Former East Coast Champion Three & Four Old Champion Mare PARADA was back in fine form to defend her title as a Senior Mare with Cameron Bonney. Amidst very strong competition, PARADA was named Champion Mare Five Years of Age & Over with incredible public support. As a fourth-generation Mulawa female, PARADA remains the pride of Mulawa and "Australia's Sweetheart".
The undisputed star of the evening was GUILIANO, who missed his opportunity to compete at the 2011 East Coast Championships due to emergency surgery. His return could not have been more triumphant, as he commanded the show ring from the moment he trotted in with his tail over his back. With Andy Sellman at the lead, GUILIANO was in perfect form, giving one of the most spectacular performances of any Arabian stallion in any show ring around the world in the last decade. The win was made sweeter as GUILIANO shared the East Coast Champion title with his yealring son MAXIMILLIANO. As the lights went down on the monumental East Coast anniversary event, Andy & GUILIANO left the ring sashed in roses with the jubliant support of a thoroughly entertained and inspired audience.
In the performance ring, leading purbred representative MULAWA BRONZE WINGS was at his best to win the East Coast Cup for the second consecutive year, another first for the Australian show ring. Several other Mulawa-owned and bred athletes were awarded honours in a variety of disciplines. A special mention to MAKEHER JAZZ, the 2012 East Coast Champion Supreme Saddle Horse of the Show, bred by Lehan Britten and sired by former East Coast Champion FAME MAKER R.
